Reading books is not really my area of expertise. I’m not much of a “read-everything” reader, it’s not that I can’t read it’s because I’m not built that way. I find a lot of books not interesting. There are very few books that interest me. I’m more of a music guy than a reader, I’d rather sit and listen and write my own songs than read.
However, when I finally do find a book I like I will read it maybe not as fast as the average reader but I’ll read it. Authors will need to try really hard to get readers like me to read their book. It must be interesting, contain humour, theologically correct (I stopped reading “The Shack” after it was announced heresy) and so on.
Below are a few books that have successfully managed to catch my eyes and interest and I have read them. And I strongly recommend it to you.
Before I go and list the books, I just want to say, I personally find the Bible to be the best book however the books I am gonna list is books written by human knowledge.
Here are the five books with one being the best (in my opinion).
5) Confessions of a Reformission Rev – Mark Driscoll

This book is written for budding church planters and existing Church planters. It’s a book where Mark Driscoll explains his struggles and successes throughout his years of planting Mars Hill Church. He’s been through times where they lacked finance, where he and his wife had troubles to support themselves but it testifies to God’s grace in their lives. It’s a book a recommend to all leaders, not just people who are wanting to plant a church, the lessons and principles there could be applied to anyone in a leadership position in my opinion, could be a pastor, bible class leader etc. There are a lot of dry books out there but I personally find this one filled with stories and a bit of humour that we can all relate to.
4) The Pilgrim’s progress – John Bunyan

Now, this is a book I have read because I was required to pick a book to do a report on in school. I didn’t want to pick a non-christian book so I picked this one. The Pilgrim’s progress is an allegory just like “The lion, the witch and the wardrobe”. Each event of the book is a realistic allegory/reflection of a real struggle of a Christian life. For example, Chrsitian (a character in the book representing Christian as the name says) is travelling to a city and he must get there via the narrow road but he wonders off and gets captured by giant despair who locks him in a castle called “Doubting castle” but to cut a long story short, he laters finds a key called “promise” and escapes. I don’t want to go any further in explaining the book as I would probably make it sound bad when in fact it’s not. However, it’s a hard read for those who struggle with old english like I do.
3) The Screwtape letters – C.S Lewis

I was given this book as a gift. Well, what can I say about it? Basically, I strongly recommend this book to those who are trying to defeat sin in their life. If you want to know what demons think like and how they work, then get this book. This book is basically letters from a demon writing to his nephew demon on how to make this human stumble. A lot of books written for Christian are just the authors writting to Christian giving them verses etc to help them conquer sin in their lives. C.S Lewis takes up the position and pretends to be a devil and writes from the demons perspective. Ever heard of the phrase “Know your enemy”, well here’s a good book to know how the devil works.
I recommend this book is because IT’S SO REALISTIC. Seriously, there’s not much I can say to convince you to read it except to say “trust me”.
2) Every young man’s battle – Fred Stoeker + Every young woman’s battle- Shannon Ethridge

THIS IS A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE.
If you’re a married man then your version is “Every man’s battle”. If your a married women then you can read “Every women’s battle”. “Every young man’s battle” is written for single guys like me and “Every young woman’s battle” is written for single girls. I have only read “Every young man’s battle”.
In a world filled with sexual temptation this book teaches purity and what God expects. The bible says “NOT A HINT” of sexual immorality. Yes, NOT A HINT. NONE, ZILCH. Well, you say, that’s not possible, well this book will teach you.
Everywhere there is temptation to sin sexually, how do we know what is too far? Is it okay to do this? This book makes it clear. However, even if you’re not struggling sexually, this book gives principle on living pure that applies to ALL.
1) The Way of the Master – Ray Comfort
![]()
I’ll let the book speak for itself -
The Way of the Master reveals an almost forgotten and forsaken Biblical truth that has the power to bring salvation to human hearts. This Book contains a proven and effective way of making the gospel real to the unsaved people of this world. This evangelistic method is so rooted in the Scriptures that once you see it, you will wonder how you could have missed it. It is the principle, found over and over again in the Bible, of bypassing the intellect (the place of argument and reason) and speaking directly to the conscience (the location of the knowledge of right and wrong) – the way Jesus did.
